What Is Abdominal Girth?
Abdominal circumference: The horizontal circumference of the abdomen at the point of the meridian (ic) [1] .
- Abdominal circumference
Abdominal circumference
- Measure the abdominal circumference from the 16th week of pregnancy, take an upright position, take the navel as the standard, and circle the abdomen horizontally for one week. The measured value is the abdominal circumference.
- The abdominal circumference increased by an average of 0.8 cm per week. The fastest growth occurs at 20-24 weeks of pregnancy; after 34 weeks of pregnancy, the growth rate of abdominal circumference slows down. If the abdominal circumference measured at 16 weeks of gestation is used as the base, the average growth value at term is 21 cm. When not increasing by value, it usually causes worry and confusion to pregnant women. In fact, the growth of the abdominal circumference of each pregnant woman is not exactly the same. This is because:
- (1) Everyone's weight and weight are different when they are not pregnant, and their abdominal circumference is also different.
- (2) The increase in abdominal circumference after pregnancy is not only caused by the enlargement of the fetus and the uterus, but also a large proportion of the factors of the pregnant woman.
- (3) Some pregnant women have a pregnancy reaction, eating is not very good, and the early increase in abdominal circumference is not obvious. When the reaction disappears, appetite increases.
- (4) Some pregnant women gain weight rapidly after pregnancy, and the subcutaneous fat in the abdomen increases rapidly. Not only does the waist circumference become thicker, but the abdominal circumference also increases faster than others.
- (5) Some pregnant women have obvious water and sodium retention, which will increase the abdominal circumference significantly.
- Therefore, measuring the growth of the uterus and the fetus by the growth of the abdominal circumference alone is limited and one-sided, and it should be combined with other examinations for comprehensive analysis.
- Possible problems: the height of the palace floor does not match the predicted gestational age
- The fetus has entered a fast-growing stage, and the uterus has begun to grow, leaving the pelvis. The upper edge of the pubic symphysis can touch the uterine floor. If the position of the palace floor is consistent with the gestational age, the doctor will give you an accurate answer during the prenatal check-up.
- If the doctor says that your height is not in line with the predicted gestational age, but does not recommend that you do further tests, such as B-ultrasound, you do not have to worry, the doctor will judge whether it is an abnormal condition or an individual difference.
- By the end of the 16th week, the abdomen may be slightly bulged, but pregnant women who are thinner or taller still do not see the bulge. If the pregnant women around you are the same as your pregnancy, their abdomen is already raised, you do not need to worry, no two pregnant women have the same pregnancy process.
Abdominal circumference
- Fetal abdominal circumference mainly refers to the development of the fetal abdomen. Prospective mothers can determine whether the fetus is developing normally by measuring the size of the fetal abdomen.
- The criteria for the abdominal circumference of the fetus are:
- Fetus 16 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 10.32 ± 1.92
- Fetus 17 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 11.49 ± 1.62
- Fetus 18 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 12.41 ± l.89
- Fetus 19 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 13.59 ± 2.30
- Fetus 20 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 14.80 ± l.89
- Fetus 21 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 15.62 ± 1.84
- Fetus 22 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 16.70 ± 2.23
- Fetus 23 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 17.90 ± 1.85
- Fetus 24 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 18.74 ± 2.23
- Fetus 25 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 19.64 ± 2.20
- Fetus 26 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 21.62 ± 2.30
- Fetus 27 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 21.81 ± 2.12
- Fetus 28 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 22.86 ± 2.41
- Fetus 29 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 23.71 ± 1.50
- Fetus 30 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 24.88 ± 2.03
- Fetus 31 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 25.78 ± 2.32
- Fetus 32 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 26.20 ± 2.33
- Fetus 33 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is 27.78: + 2.30
- Fetus 34 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 27.99 ± 2.55
- Fetus 35 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 28.74 ± 2.88
- Fetus 36 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 29.44 ± 2.83
- Fetus 37 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 30.14 ± 2.88
- Fetus 38 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 30.63 ± 2.83
- Fetus 39 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 31.34 ± 3.12
- Fetus 40 weeks:
- The average abdominal circumference is: 31.49 ± 2.79
- Some expectant mothers detect that the fetal abdominal circumference is too large or small, and the fetal abdominal circumference is large, indicating that the fetus is fat, and the fetal abdominal circumference is small, indicating that the fetus is small. At the same time, prospective parents still have to go to a regular hospital for examinations. Pregnancy tests need to look at the comprehensive test results to determine whether the baby is developing normally [4] .
Belly circumference precautions
- Once a married woman becomes pregnant, the increase in abdominal circumference will gradually increase with the increase in the month of pregnancy. Due to individual differences and other factors, the degree of increase in abdominal circumference will vary. Under normal circumstances, the belly circumference of the umbilicus of pregnant women in the second and third trimesters generally does not exceed 95-100 cm. If the belly circumference of a pregnant woman grows too fast, it is usually an ominous sign-there may be some pathological changes, and you should go to the hospital for examination in time to avoid delay.
