What is muscle tension?

Muscle tension occurs when muscle fibers tear or other types of muscle damage to which it generally becomes when the muscle is stretched too far from the natural state. Sometimes known as pulled muscles or muscle draft, muscle tension can often be quite painful. Although it may be common sports injury, this may happen when trying to do everyday tasks. Treatment usually consists of rest, ice, compression and increase (rice), but in severe cases it will be necessary to surgically repair the muscle.

The most common symptom of muscle tension is pain in the affected area. It most likely causes pain when one tries to move the injured muscle and can even be almost impossible to move. Other symptoms include redness, bruises and swelling. Acute tension is usually caused by some kind of trauma on muscles, something that hit the muscles or a person that raised something is difficult. Chronic trunk usually occurs when muscle is overused, for examplerecurring movements.

Muscle trunks are generally categorized to three degrees. The union tension of grade I is usually considered the least serious and often there will be only a few torn muscle fibers. Muscle trunks of degrees II are usually slightly more serious, and although more muscle fibers are torn, muscles are not torn all the way.

mild or medium muscle strains usually do not require much more than treatment of rice and can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Immediately resting the injured muscle is considered very important because it can stop further damage. LED wrapped in a towel and applied to tense muscles for 10 to 20 minutes at a time can reduce swelling in the area, so compression, which is usually achieved by wrapping and injured area in the elastic bandage. Increasing the area close or above the heart level will also reduce swelling.

Although rice treatment is also recommended, when tears of muscles completely or muscle tension in degree III, sometimes surgery may be required. During this operation, the surgeon will go and repair the torn muscle. Healing can take up to several months.

Heating and stretching muscles before physical activity can help prevent muscle tension. These activities will help increase the circulation of the body muscles. Also, individuals who do not regularly participate in sport or exercise should not try to rework their muscles. Trying to do too much at a time can lead to muscle tension.
