What is Dreamwork?
Dreamwork is a term used to describe different ways of studying and interpretation of dreams and is sometimes part of various types of psychotherapy. Depending on the type of therapy, Dreamwork can mean different things. Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, used the term dreams to refer to how the mind distorts and masks subconscious feelings and unfulfilled wishes and transforms them into dreams. Carl Jung, founder of analytical psychology, considered dream analysis an important part of therapy and used this term to refer to how one can learn to understand his dream. In newer forms of dreamy therapy, Dreamwork often refers to a process in which one freely studies and interprets his own dreams without using established forms of therapy or prejudices about how dreams should decipher and interpret. He called this distortion of the dreams, and believed that the therapist had to reverse the distortion of the decryption or decoding of dreams. Carl Jung believed that dreams were not just suppressed wishes, but could have different levels of meaning. JungHe also believed that some symbols and images in dreams were shared collectively, which means that they meant the same thing for many people, while other images were subjective and could only be interpreted by the confidential knowledge of every person's life experience.
Dreamwork can also refer to a very personal kind of dream therapy. Proponents of this type of dreams argue that dreams are too subjective to be interpreted using standardized methods or predetermined interpretations of symbols and dream images. Instead, it is believed that every person has to study their own dreams to understand them. The common steps in this kind of dreams include remembering your dreams Befochystis, keeping your notes describing dreams and analyzing dreams by thinking about how they relate to personal life. Proponents believe that dreams can help one overcome fears and problems and also lead to a deeper understanding of their own psyche.
One of the ancient forms of dreams is Oneiromancy or Dream divination. This type of dream interpretation was common in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and many other ancient cultures. In these societies, it was sometimes assumed that dreams contain reports from the gods and Oneiromancy was the process of understanding these reports. This differs from oneirology, which is a scientific study of dreams focusing on what causes dreaming and how to decrypt the dreams themselves.
