What is Hamantaschen?

Hamantaschen are a kind of sweet pastry that is triangular with a filling produced traditionally nuts, fruit and sometimes chocolate. The singular form of the word is "Hamantasch", it is also sometimes spent "hamantash". Other spelling of the word is "Hontasch", which is also sometimes written "HONTASH", "HUNEMACAS" or "HUNEMAS". Despite many spelling the name for this sweet pastry, most of all variations are pluralized with the end of "-en".

Although similar pastries can be found in other kitchens, Hamantaschen is most often attributed to Jewish cuisine ashkenazi and are commonly served during Purim, Jewish holidays. Purim is a holiday that resembles an event recorded in Esther, in which Jews living in an ancient Persian Empire were delivered from smoothing. The plot that destroyed them was hatched by a man named Haman. There are contradictory stories about whether Hamanschen was named as a reference to Haman or whether the name is the result of corruption of existing German and Yiddish names for similar drUhy bread.

In order to prepare Hamantaschen, the filling is placed in the center of the circular piece of dough. The shape of the three-border is achieved by folding the dough around the filling, but leaves most of it. The filling itself is not completely closed as with ravioli, but mostly exposed as with pumpkin cake. The common fillings of the fruit Hamantaschen include cherries, apples, apricots, plum date and other types of fruit canned food. The fruit is usually cooked and aligned before use as a filling for Hamanschen.

6 Sometimes pastries are full of caramel, chocolate or Dulce de Leche. In some cases, they are full of cheese and are served as spicy pastries. However, this is not particularly common.

One of the best used aspects of Hamantaschen is the variety of texture that occurs in the pastry body when they are baked. The exterior and bread points are often solid and slightly scaly. However, the interior is often dougha and soft. Sometimes Hamentaschen issprinkled all over the world with sugar for added sweetness.
