What is Katsudon?

Katsudon is a Japanese meal that consists of a large bowl of steamed rice topped with a thin chopped chop of fried, fried pork. Food belongs to the category of food called Donburi, rice bowls with different toppings. In addition to pork chops, Katsudon usually includes egg fluctuations and a special broth.

The name "Katsudon" is made up of parts of two words; Tokatsu and Donburi. The name for pork chops is Tokatsu, with "ton" means pork and "katsu" as a Japanese pronunciation of the English word "chop". The word "Donburi" means "a large bowl" and is shortened to "don" as an extension for rice meals. The word "katsudon" means "pork rice bowl".

For Katsudon, two types of pork are used - Lean and Fatty. The top version is called Leavekatsu and the oily version is called Rosukatsu. Cutlets Tokatsu are immersed in the egg, the crumbs of the punk bread and deeply fried. The chop is then cut into narrow strips and placed through steamed rice.

broth for katsudon is made with a stock called Dashi and a sweet Japanese called Mirin. The broth is flavored with soy sauce and cooked with a green onion. Lightly beaten eggs are swirling into the broth and loaded through a bowl. In another presentation, the eggs are poured directly on the chop.

There are several variations on Katsudon. Sometimes it is drizzled with Tokatsu sauce that is similar to the worcestershire sauce. In Okayama, Katsudon ends with demi-glecem and green peas; In Nagoya, it is served with Miso sauce and is simply served with soy sauce.

The creation of Katsudon is attributed to the Japanese high school student in 1923. Today it is associated with entrance examinations of school schools and sports competitions, because the word "katsu" also means "win". Students often eat Katsudon before these important events.
