It is used for table fare, winery and drying for raisins and believes that it comes from ancient diversity of green grapes, historically called grape sultan. It was originally from the Asia Minor Region, an area that is now Turkey, or perhaps from modern Iran. Today, in some regions it is called grape sultan, or sometimes Sultanina. Gold and regular raisins can be made of grapes without Thompson seeds. The difference in color is due to the treatment of raisins, which in the case of gold raisins can be a product of one of two processes. Alternatively, they can be treated with sulfur dioxide oxide to achieve the same effect.

When regular raisins are made of grapes without Thompson seeds, they are usually called Sultanas and distinguished them from the gold variety. However, this resolution is only common in North America. In order to further increase the confusion created by different uses, in the United States, the names "Thompson Seedless Grape" and "Sultana" are defined by the US federal law as the same meaning, which means LegalThese, in the United States, mean the term sultan "grape", even if it is in this country.
