What is amish friendship Bread?
For those who like giving or receiving handmade gifts, amish friendship bread is what to look forward to. Amish friendly bread is usually given to friends in liquid form and the recipient is encouraged to divide the dough with another friend and then bake their half at home. To provide this bread requires a time commitment, usually between ten to two weeks. Amish friendly bread is created by an appetizer of bread, a by -product of flour, milk and sugar. The first day is combined and left at room temperature. For the next four days, the mixture is gently kneaded once a day and continues to sit at the room temperature. During this time, the ingredients will ferment and create yeast. Yeast allows the dough to get up and give the bread a soft texture. The next three days, the dough will be moved twice a day. More flour, sugar and milk are added on the tenth day and the starter is divided into the same parts. Amish friendly bread is now ready for gifts.
Once you receive a starter, you can make Amish bread in different ways. Most recipes require adding eggs, flour and soda. For a sweeter version of the bread, add cinnamon, nuts and raisins. Amish friendly bread usually bakes at low temperature and is ready in loaves. Some chefs will enjoy sprinkling mixtures of sugar and cinnamon over loaves.
Due to the need for fermentation, metal bowls, dishes or bakery pans, they are not recommended for use with AMISH FRIENDSHIP bread. Metal can disrupt the fermentation process and destroy bread. Modern chefs are recommended to use wooden spoons as well as sealable plastic bags to make the process even easier.
