What is Ontbijtkoek?

Ontbijtkoek literally means a "breakfast cake" in Dutch. It is a type of spice cake or gingerbread that is similar to coffee cake and made with very small fat. The cake is usually consumed in the Netherlands, Flanders and Indonesia.

The Dutch usually give a breakfast cake with butter. It can also be eaten with cheese or jam. When it is refreshments, tea or coffee is usually served. Sometimes it is also considered a dessert.
