What is buckwheat Kasha?
Kasha buckwheat is a whole grain buckwheat or torso that was usually roasted. Traditionally, Groats or Kasha are cooked with water and are served as cereals or porridge. Kasha is also used for baking and cooking and can be used instead of rice or pasta. Kasha buckwheat is gluten -free, making it a safe alternative for those who have allergies to wheat or gluten unless mixed with other ingredients. Purchased buckwheat Kasha can also be grounded in a coffee grinder or small cereal grinders to make fresh buckwheat. While many people believe it is a grain and is used as such, Kasha buckwheat is actually associated with rhubarb and sorrel. The buckwheat plant is a herb and triangular seeds of fruit or groats are suppressed and baked to create what is called kasha.
