What is Dakos?
popular in Crete and often served as an appetizer, dakos is a Greek food made mainly of cheeses, tomatoes and Russian bread, a kind of twice baked bread similar to Bruschetta. Dakos traditionally consists of bread with tomatoes and cheese and sometimes served with the party of olives. However, the ingredients can also be combined into a bowl and served as bread salad. The bread is strongly chopped into slices. Then the slices are baked at a low temperature until they are crispy or brushing with oil and grilling. Simply toasting bread often works as well.
When preparing dakos, Russian is first moistened with water or tomato juice. The tomatoes are then grated and can be tense to remove excess juice. Once grated, pieces of tomatoes are placed on Russian. Sometimes sliced onions or green peppers are added to the tomatoes, but usually the crumbled cheese is placed directly to the top.

Depending on the recipe, olive oil is either the first ingredient placed on the damp Russian, sprinkled directly on the bread, or the last drizzled over the cheese. Greek oregano can also be added with oil. Occasionally, sliced olives can be used as a topping for completed dakos.
Although Dakos is often made in this way as Dakos salad, it can also be converted into a more traditional salad by adding ingredients to a bowl and breaking bread into pieces. Less traditional salads combine traditional Dakos ingredients with unusual, such as sliced cucumbers and onions, as well as lemon juice, dill and salt and pepper and create a bandage. Chili oil can also be used to bend the taste. Fresh spinach leaves may also be included.
When creating dakos salad with vegetables, cheese and spices combines and leave to sit for about half an hour. It helps cHut mixing for tastier salad. If the bread is divided into pieces, it can also be added to vegetables. The bread that is maintained is placed in the bottom of the bowl and the mixture of the salad is located above the bread and decorated with dill when the bowl is ready to serve.
