What is Dulce de Batata?

Dulce de Batata is consumed as breakfast, dessert or sweet snacks and is made of a mixture of sweet potatoes, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. This is common in Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, although its variations can be found in other countries in South and Central America, where sweet potatoes are endemic. Once ready, the dulce de batata has a strong jelly consistency.

The main ingredient in dulce de batata is a sweet potato. There are several different types of sweet potatoes that are commonly grown and consumed, and any can be used to make this meal. Sweet potatoes move in color from white to yellow to dark orange. In general, darker varieties are sweeter than the lighter ones. Although it has "potatoes" in its name, sweet potatoes are not related to common potatoes and is in the same family as the morning glory.

Before they can be made to Dulce de Batata, sweet potatoes must first be peeled and cooked. They can be boiled in ordinary water and cook until meKká. Adding lemon juice will help sweet potatoes keep their color and add to dulce de batata.

Once the sweet potatoes are cooked pre -cooked, then boiled in syrup made of water and sugar. The sweet potatoes must be crushed into the syrup to make the bowl smooth and the whole food must be reduced until it thickens. It is also common to add vanilla and cinnamon to the syrup.

After cooking the mixture, it can be transferred to a bowl to burn. Dulce de Batata will take the form of any bowl in which it is located, and once it is cold, it can be turned upside down and sliced. Dulce de Batata is not particularly solid, so shallow meals are often used to keep its shape and sit one plate.

In addition to this standard form Dulce de Batata, there is also a version of food that contains chocolate. Chocolate can be melted into sweet potatoesAnd the syrup mixture after it has decreased, but before it cools down, allowing it to spread through it. Custom and chocolate dulce de batata are often consumed on bread, such as jelly or with fine cheese.
