What is galinic acid?

Galinic acid is a phytochemical found in many plant tissues, both as a free compound and as part of plant polymer tannin. This phenolic molecule is an antioxidant and seems to have antimicrobial and anti -cancer activities in animal studies. Galinic acid is also part of the structure of other, larger polyphenolic compounds, molecules made up of multiple phenolic groups. An example is epigallocatechin-3-galt (EGCG), a phenol of green tea, which seems to have strong anticarcinogenic abilities. These compounds are made only by plants and microorganisms, but many offer people huge health benefits to people. Phenolics are often strong antioxidants and may have such properties as protection against oxidative damage. This can protect from diseases as diverse as dementia and cancer. Many of these compounds, including gallic acid, also have the right antimicrobial evidence.

Many larger polyphenols contain gallic acid jas part of their structure. When the compound is associated with another molecule using the ester connection, it is known as a gallery. Examples include Green Egcg and Epicatechin Gallate phenols. These compounds are known as catechins. In particular, EGCG is a strong antioxidant and has been the subject of many studies on its ability to protect against heart disease and cancer.

ECGC is considered a phenol of green tea due to its high concentrations in green tea. It is much less prevailing in black tea because it is destroyed during processing that produces black tea. The method of preparation of green tea may significantly affect the concentration of available polyphenols. Adding milk will prevent them from absorbing and adding water, which is too hot, causing chemically to change. Get the most health benefits from green tea, it is best to prepare it with water that has not reached the boiling point and drink without milk.

Gali acidNew is common in plants. Some have particularly large concentrations, including blueberries, hazelnuts, oak bark, tea leaves and grapes. The technical term for this compound is acid 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic.

One substance that has a large amount of this molecule is a type of tannin, a complex molecule made of phenolic compounds. When many Gallate molecules are connected, they form a substance called hydrolyzable tannin. There are several classes of this type of luminous polymer, once used for tanned skin. This astringency gives the tea to its bite. Tannin is located in plants and is also part of some soils.

Galinic acid is also used in research laboratories as part of a standard test to measure phenol and polyphenol concentrations in plant extracts and other substances. A compound called folin-cocalteau reagent reacts the phenol group, but does not indicate the concentration of phenolic compounds. Various quantities of gallic acid are ready to test simultaneously with foli reagentN-Cocalteau to provide measurement of the number of molecules in the mixture. The results of tested phenolic samples are usually displayed as gallic acid equivalents.
