What is Jiaozi?

The basis of Chinese New Year festivals, Jiaozi is a type of Chinese dumplings, usually full of meat. Traditionally symbolic, these dumplings are usually said to represent wealth or happiness, depending on their shape and filling. They are often served with soy sauce or submergey sauce. These dumplings can be made at home or frozen in special food stores.

Thinner than Wonton Skins, jiaozi envelopes can be purchased pre -made or made from zero by means of flour, water and sometimes salt. In the production of packaging from zero, flour and water are kneaded for 20 to 30 minutes, then rolled into a cylinder shape of about 1 inch (2.54 cm) in diameter. As soon as they roll, it should be cut into long sections a quarter inches (0.6 cm) and then flattened by a roller. Alternatively, the dough can be introduced in one large sheet and a circular cookie cutter can be used to cut out individual packaging Jiaozi . If the dough is not used immediately, it should be covered with wetA cloth to prevent drying.

Most often, the fulfillment is in jiaozi pork, but you can also use chicken, beef or shrimp. For vegetarian versions, vegetables can completely replace meat. When using beef or pork, the meat should contain enough fat for further taste, but not too much, that the fat flows out of the dumplings. The meat is usually mixed with chives, rice wine, salt, white pepper and sesame oil. The filling may also include cabbage, bamboo shoots, garlic, coriander, ginger or soy sauce, depending on the recipe.

After mixing the filling, some recipes propose to place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to combine the tastes. Although many recipes give instructions for the production of packaging first, it may be more time to conscious that it will make the dough while the filling sits in the fridge. Not all recipes, however, suggest a time of filling for mixing flavor to be TEnto step optional.

As soon as the envelopes are cut and the filling is prepared, in each jiaozi envelope is placed with a tablespoon of filling and the packaging is folded and sealed. Dumplings are either formed in a crescent -shaped shape, gently pressing the index finger against the center of the closed dumplings, or into a circular or ingot shape by combining the ends. The shape of the Ingot resembles the type of Chinese coin, and it is therefore said that it symbolizes wealth.

dumplings are usually cooked in a pot of water. They are finished when they hover to the top and remain hovering. Steaming in a bamboo basket is another cooking option.
