What is Kaatsu?

The relatively new method of building muscle from Japan, which refers to the Japanese abbreviation Kaats, involves limiting blood flow to processed muscles. Kaatsu, translated as "vascular training of low -intensity vascular occlusions," created a doctor and professor at Tokyo University, who studied this practice almost four decades before the patent of the process and promoted it to the public. Although some question the results, at least one study shows that through Kaats it is possible to obtain the same mass of muscle mass than training outside Kaats with greater weight resistance.

UT Professor Yoshiaki Sato was credited in 1996 by a patent for Kaats. According to Kaats International University, this process leads to the capillaries to fill with combined blood in areas where resistance is applied. This practice is considered an interesting progress for those who have a reduced range of movement or weak cardiovascular health.
