What is a lemon cake?
Lemon Ice Box Pie is a chilled, cream and cake American dessert, often attributed as roots in the traditional cuisine of the American South. The dessert traditionally includes the filling of ingredients such as lemon juice and condensed milk in the pressed crust. Usually the cake does not require any cooking, with fillings that are allowed to be planted in the refrigerator until it is solid. Characteristically, the lemon ice box cake carries a strong similarity to a key lime cake, replacing lemons or lemon juice instead of lime. The stories of the origin of the lemon Ice Box cake usually place desserts somewhere in the southern United States, although many recipes also came in other areas. Since the recipe requires cooling, it is unlikely that any LED box recipe existed before the invention of ice boxes at the beginning of the 18th century first and first, and first, it came after the invention of electric refrigerators at the beginning of the 20th century.
Variations on recipes for lemon ice cakes are numerous. Some recipes use lemonade instead of lemon juice or add other ingredients such as cream cheese, whipped creams or nuts or pieces of lemon and other citrus fruits. Regardless of the specific ingredients used or recipe used, cakes usually require continuous cooling to prevent melting or separation at the room temperature. Thickening substances such as gelatin are sometimes used to secure sufficiently solid cakes to get for slicing and last longer exposure to the room temperature.
Recipes for lemon ice and similar desserts are popular for young and beginners because of the ease with which such cakes can be made. All that is required are the right ingredients, a way to whip the filling and bark. Graham cracker crumbs mixed with butter is a typical bark for lemon ice cake that requires the manufacturer to simply mix and compress the crumby to the pan. After a short whipping time, the fillings are poured into the bark. After the assembly, the lemon ice cake takes only a short time in the refrigerator to set enough to serve.
Since lemon ice cakes and similar desserts are chilled, these desserts are more often served during the warm summer months. In fact, the ease of preparation, lack of cooking and chilled requirements for serving illustrates why this particular dessert enjoyed a long history as the southern favorite. Before World War II, few southern farms had electricity, relying on ice boxes and various cold desserts to alleviate the characteristic high temperature and humidity of the summer.
