What is Loco Moco?

Loco Moco is a traditional Hawaiian breakfast and comfort. The most common version consists of a bowl full of white rice, spilled hamburger patty. Burger and rice are soaked in a strong brown sauce and the whole food is ended with a fried egg. This meal is quite popular in Hawaii and has evolved outside its modest roots as cheap but fulfilling food. Many restaurants and chefs created their own variations on Loco Moco.

This particular meal dates back to the 40th century, when several hungry adolescent athletes were created. These young men wanted a hearty and fulfilling budget breakfast and the result was Loco Moco. Young men are reportedly named themselves, after the Spanish word loco , which means "fool".

Traditional Loco Moco contains a combination of macronutrients common in comfort food. The food is rich in white rice carbohydrates. It also contains a large amount of protein from the egg and hamburger. Food also provides considerable amount of fat from egg, beefAnd sauces.

Many local and regional variations on Loco Moco are available in Hawaii today. Some common versions draw on the rich Japanese heritage of the island. Even the most common form of the bowl contains strong echoes of Japanese culinary practice, including the use of starch as a base and layered bowl construction.

Fried rice can be replaced by white rice, which is standard in the bowl. Although this substitution does not mean that Loco Moco is no longer healthier, it can add another taste. Fried rice may also contain other foods. Small pieces of vegetables, often peas or carrots, are common. Spam® can also be added to fried rice, food consumed in contemporary Hawaii.

Other preparations maintain the basic layered LOCO MOCO structure, but further adjust the specific bowls of the bowl.
