What is Pandebono?

Pandebono is a type of South American role or bagel prepared using two different types of flour and cheese. They are usually consumed a few minutes after the oven, even if they can also be reopen and often enjoy breakfast or lunch with coffee or hot chocolate. There are a number of different stories about the origin of the name and also where these roles were first created and served. Pandebono can be relatively fast and easy to manufacture and is often available from South American bakeries or certain specialized bakeries in the US.

Although it usually agrees that Pandebono came in Colombia, there are a large number of speculations and disagreements about its exact origin. One story claims that an Italian baker who came to Columbia invented these roles. It is said that he would sell roles by screaming " Mr. Del Buono ", which means "good bread" in Italian and which was repeated on "pandebono". Other stories believe that the first time the owner of a small restaurant called hacienda elBono and the roles were called Mr. Del Bono or "El Bono bread", which was eventually shortened to "pandebono".

, regardless of the exact origin of these roles, are usually prepared in a relatively simple way. Pandebono begins with a dough, which consists of two types of flour, some cheese, one or two eggs and sometimes a small amount of sugar. Tapioca flour, also called kasava or yucca starch, is used along with masarapa, or pre -cooked corn starch. Both flour can be difficult to find in some areas outside South America, even if they can carry special grocery stores.

To this combination of flour, eggs and cheese are added. The type of cheese used in Pandebon often depends on the recipe and the area in which it is made. Some regions have timely used the cheeses of a local farmer that work well, often because of the relatively high amount of SLANosta, and Mexican cheese known as queso fresco . If low salt cheese is used, additional salt can be added to the dough to achieve the correct level of salinity. Once this dough is sufficiently mixed, it is shaped into small roles or rings, similar to a bagel, baked in a tin pan and served fresh from the oven.
