What is rumtopf?

Rumtopf is a traditional German fruit dessert soaked with rum, which consists of fruit, sugar and strong rum. The word can be translated as a rum pot and is served during celebrations or special opportunities. The dessert is basically a number of different types of fruit preserved in high -firm rum and sugar for several months. The fruit slowly succeeds in rum and sugar and is completely saturated with liquid. Although it is quite easy, it must be allowed to mature for several months to gain its specific taste.

The tradition of creating Rumtopf began centuries ago as a technique for storing fruit for a long time. Fresh fruits of that time were used to create this dessert, especially the first fresh fruit to be harvested. Mostly it was strawberries, but now, with the availability of fruit throughout the year, rumtopf can be produced at any time. Traditionally, a large stone pot of pots was placed during a dark and cold environment. Fresh fruits are layered in a pot together with sugar and a very strong rum.

Care is devoted to ensuring that the fruit is completely immersed in alcohol - for preventing fruit spoiling, the high concentration of alcohol and sugar is responsible. The fruit is left in rum and sugar for several months and checks from time to time. During this period it usually changes color. Another fruit is added to Rumtopf when they come to the season.

It is necessary to be patient so that you can enjoy this delicious dessert, because the fruit needs time to soak up rum and sugar. When it is done, after about two to three months the liquid gets a fruit taste and can be drunk as such. Alternatively, the fruit and syrup can be served with waffles and ice cream or cottage cheese cake or pudge.

can be served in an elegant glass, artistically spilled whipped cream. The liqueur also works well as a cordial after dinner, or it can be combined with a small champagne and served as an attractive cocktail. Fruit in rumtopf can also be served warm at the top of the pancakeno or with Flan.

Some like to consume rumtopf with any gaming meal food. Fruits used for the production of Rummptopf include cherries, apricots and pineapple. Peaches, pears and plums also make good accessories. Strawberries are one of the most traditional fruits used to produce this dessert. Grapes, raspberries and nectarins can also be added.

Some fruits do not make good accessories. The fruit to avoid is apples when they get a special texture, a rhubarb that Cycles, and the bananas that make it mushy. Blackberries and blueberries should also be avoided because they can color all other fruit and make the whole mixture. Klata and meloun are also bad accessories because they make the liqueur too watery.
