What is Spanakopita?

Spanakopita is a traditional Greek salty pastry. It is made from Phyllo dough and is cut in triangles and the interior can be filled with boiled spinach and onions. FETA cheese can also be added for the heart -free version of the Spanacopity.

This tasty food may have been made more than 400 years ago and could have been introduced during the Turkish occupation of Greece. Turkish food ispanaki is almost identical in the presentation, although it has sometimes added leek. Spanakopita, however, is better known as Greek food and is found that it is served in most Greek restaurants outside Greece, as well as in virtually all restaurants in Greece. Chefs and food historians attribute Epirus, Greece with the most delicious spanacopit. The triangular pastry can be small, so it's a perfect bite offer for the chef. It is also often sold in deli, where it will probably be backed lukewarm, as well as traditional in Greek cooking. If a person is familiar with the working phyllo body that is sold in leaves, spanacopita is not difficult to produce. The filling is inserted between the thin layers of Phyllo dough, which are then cut into triangular shapes. Alternatively, the dough can be cut into a square and folded to create a triangular look. The inner seams of the pastry can be brushed with egg whites or olive oil to help them stick together. On the outside, the pastry is brushed with oil, butter or egg whites that help brown.

Depending on the size of the individual pastry, the baking time may vary from 20 minutes to an hour. The pastry can be served hot, although the filling can be extremely hot. Alternatively, spanacopite can be administered in a traditional Greek way, only slightly warm. Tzatziki sauce often, immersion of yogurt, ČESneku and cucumbers, accompanied by spanacopit, although many believe that pastry is rich enough without ornaments.
