What is sugar cane juice?

Sugar cane grown to produce refined white sugar is a segmented stem similar to the appearance to a bamboo. At the time of the harvest, the workers cut off these stems just above the roots and transported them to the sugar processing plant to be pushed. However, some of these stems of sugar cane do not end in commercial factories. In many countries, road vendors use special hand -driven presses to crush sugar cane stems and release juice from the raw sugar cane they contain. The juice can then be sold in plastic bags or cups as a refreshing drink. Through evaporation and distillation, most moisture is removed from the raw liquid and the result is a crystalline powder that is recognized as sucrose or sugar. Sugar beet juice can also be used to make white sugar, but only sections of sugar cane are used to create cane juice.

forBecause of the juice is naturally sweet, it can be sold directly as a fresh drink without further processing. Some suppliers will add tasty ingredients such as ginger, lime leaves or mint leaves to make the drink even tastier. However, fresh sugar cane juice has no preservatives and tends to black out from oxidation soon after pressing. Fresh form can be filled for commercial sales in local grocery stores, but it may not be as tasty as a variety sold from the streets.

One popular cocktail that includes sugar cane juice is known as Mojito. Finding authentic juice on the shelves of US stores may be a challenge, but many Asian or Hispanic grocery stores can import the product and keep it under cooling. Canned juice can also be known as Guarapo on some Hispanic markets. There is also a processed product called Evaporated Cane Juice , which is often used as an organic alternativeto traditional sugar.

Raw sugar cane juice complemented by ginger or lime juice is also a popular source of liquid nutrition during medical fasting or cleaning. Some enthusiasts believe it contains more nutrients than maple syrup often used during such cleaning. There are unofficial evidence that the juice has a direct effect on the digestive system, as witnessed by tourists who, after consumption, reported serious seizures of diarrhea. Some travel experts propose to avoid these road stands, because unused stems of sugar cane may not be stored under hygienic conditions and the effects of drinking clean sugar can be felt within minutes of consumption.
