What Is a Collision Sensor?
The collision sensor is a control signal input device in an airbag system. Its role is to detect the intensity signal of the car collision by the collision sensor when the car collides, and input the signal to the airbag computer. The airbag computer judges whether the inflation element is detonated to inflate the airbag according to the signal of the collision sensor.

- The collision sensor is used to detect and judge the collision signal when the car collides, so as to ignite the airbag in time.

- 1) The symptoms of airbag systems are difficult to diagnose, so diagnostic codes are the most important source of information when troubleshooting. Always check the diagnostic code before disconnecting the battery. [3]
- 2) Disconnect the ignition switch during inspection. If the vehicle allows the battery negative pole to be removed, it is best to disconnect the power supply. The negative pole should be removed for 90s or longer before starting. Because the airbag system is equipped with a backup power source, the airbag may still be deployed within 90s after the battery negative electrode is removed.
- 3) Even if there is only a slight collision and the airbag is not deployed, check the front collision sensor and steering wheel cushion.
- 4) Do not expose the front airbag sensor, center airbag sensor assembly, and steering wheel gasket directly in front of hot air and flames.
- 5) When testing the circuit, use a high-impedance multimeter for measurement.
- 6) Instruction labels are attached to the components of the airbag, and the precautions listed should be strictly followed during operation.
- 7) After unplugging the airbag connector, short the airbag connector with a small copper wire.
- 8) Do not measure the resistance of the air tube inflation element detonation tube to avoid accidental explosion of the air bag system. The method of disassembling the detection components should be adopted first, and then searched gradually.
- 9) The airbag system is a very sensitive device. A little carelessness during inspection may cause the airbag to explode and cause unnecessary losses.
- 10) The wiring harness and connector of the airbag system are usually covered with a special color sleeve, which is different from other system wiring harnesses. Do not damage these sleeves during inspection.
