What are Figs missions?
Mission Figs are the type of common figs, Ficus Carica, which was introduced to the United States in 1768. Alternately known as Black Mission Figs or Franciscanas, were brought to San Dieg in California in the Mediterranean area where they came to the Spanish Balear Island Islands. Later, they became the most common species of Fík grown and sold in California, although they were eventually overtaken by Calimyrna, which came from Turkey and was introduced to the San Joaquin valley in 1882. These trees are best in climate resistance zones or more and are sensitive to freezing, but benefit under different conditions, which causes them to be appropriate commercial growth.
Figs missions remain the most popular type of black figs grown in California and are purple black when they are ripe. Shaped like a pear are smaller and slightly extendedthrough the neck flat bottom. From the inside is fruit pale strawberry color and is considered a high quality variety for eating. They can be eaten fresh or dried, although if fresh are consumed, they must be immediately cooled and consumed within a few days.
