What is Donair?

Donair, inspired by Döner Kebab, is a unique Canadian variation on the gyro sandwich. The first Donair sandwiches were created in the Canadian Halifax region and can now be found throughout the eastern part of the country and in larger Western Canadian cities. The restaurant called King of Donair claims that in the early 70s. The owners modified the gyro sandwiches they sold, but still cooked meat on a spit, similar to the way gyrobress meat is cooked. Taste and texture are often compared to a slash. A sweet garlic sauce is used on the bowl and replaces the salty yogurt tzatziki for the gyro. The sauce is usually made of evaporated milk, vinegar, garlic and sugar. Sililar for Gyro, served in Pita flat bread and spilled slices of tomatoes and onions.

from the invention of this unique meat and sauce has expanded its use to another aftergrasses. Donair Pizza uses the sauce instead of conventional red sauce and meat is a topping and commonly appears in Halifax restaurants. Hamburgers Donair and Submarines are also sold in Maana places. Donair Pope is a popular version of French fries of salted and cheeses served throughout the eastern Canada. In this version, meat and sauce are used instead of traditional ingredients.

Although it is all over Canada, it is generally agreed that the best version can be found in Halifax and its surroundings. Criticism includes less tasty sauces and lack of tenderness in the meat. There was also evidence of a lack of knowledge of how to prepare meat. Several cases of Escherichia coli (E. coli) occurred in Central Canada and were bound to insufficiently cooked donus meat, which forced the Canadian government to enaclate legislation that dictates that the meat must be cooked both for vertical spitting and after shaving it on the grill. Many Donair restaurants in halifax cooked meat in this way beforelegislation.
