What is Jujube?

Jujube is a type of fruit common throughout Asia. It sells both fresh and dried, with a dried version is sometimes called a Chinese date, thanks to its sweet granular texture and a single seed. Jujube has more than four hundred cultivars in China, where it has been grown for centuries before the explorers were introduced to Europe. In Europe, the dried Jujubes became popular and the term came to refer to any candy or sweet, which is the likely reason why the name was selected for the type of candy popular in the southern United States.

The Jujube tree can grow up to 40 feet (12 meters) in height, with long decline branches and is often thorny. The tree is quite beautiful and used by some gardeners for decoration. Unlike many other fertile trees, Jujubes tend to burn fruit so easily, and therefore does not earn a clutter of the garden under them. Jujube leaves are small and oval or round and in the autumn they are golden in autumn. Almost all Jujube leaves have a collection.

Jujube fruit appears in the autumn and is usually round shape, although some cultivars have elongated fruit. The fruit is red when it is ripe, with a soft, edible skin surrounding creamy, sweet meat. But the fruit will not stay for a long time. Soon he will shrink and dry on a tree into a brownish, wrinkled fruit, which is also edible. For this reason, many cultivators leave fruit on a tree to dry before gathering it for storage. In taste, Jujube resembles an apple, although it has a separate taste.

Fresh mature Jujubes are very delicate and keep in cold about one week. Once they are removed from the tree, they will not ripen further even if they can bruises. The fruit is more often sold and consumed and many nations offer a candied version that is also tasty. Dried fruit does not have to be treated because it dries naturally, and it seems to maintain indefinitely.

leaves of the Jujube tree are consumed by some animal species and fruit and barkare used to generate brown or reddish plant dyes. The tree is also resistant to many pests, an excellent choice for organic gardening. Some adherents of Asian medicine believe that Jujube has many healthy qualities. The fruit has an extremely high content of vitamin C, but has no other proven health benefits.
