What is Armagnac?
Armagnac is French brandy made in the French region Armagnac. This brandy from the southwest of France is much less famous than her cousin Cognac, although she is much older, and some people think that a very fine Armagnac has a taste better than the taste of cognac. Many alcohol shops, markets and French specialized shops carry this brandy and, depending on where you live in the world, you may be able to directly order this brandy from craft manufacturers in France.
It seems that the origin of Armagnac lies around the 12th century. This brandy is made of white wine grapes such as Colombard, Folle Blanche, Ugni Blanc, Piquepoul and Baco 22A, hybrid varieties of grapes. The grapes are pushed to produce dry wine, which is distilled once, often using the column distillation technique before pouring into black oak barrels for aging. Because Armagnac is distilled only once, it has an alcohol content of around 53%, which is lower than some other bodies and also has a stronger fruit taste that withE can develop in a very complex and elegant feeling in the mouth if Armagnac is sufficiently aging.
Usually Armagnac is aging for at least two years and sometimes much longer. It is possible to find Armagnacs who have aged 40 years or more, along with mixtures of more years that are designed to show the best of different armagnaks. Some manufacturers also add substances such as caramel to their Armagnacs to create an impression of age, even if others frown on this practice.
In France, Armagnac is usually consumed as a digestif, in small quantities at the end of food. Most people drink it from goggles with wide bases and narrow peaks, and usually one holds the base of the glass rather than the glass itself, because the heating of the glass causes the aroma of alcohol that can overcome the natural fruit of Adobry Armagnac. It is also not unusual to see Armagnac paired with different fruits and chocolateDesserts and sometimes cheeses.
When buying brandy from Armagnac, try to find some reviews of specific manufacturers and years to find the best brandy in your price range. Some Armagnac may be extremely expensive, so it pays to check the reviews first to ensure that you get the best possible product. Be aware that Armagnac will no longer age as soon as it is filled, so its storage for years will not change its taste, even if you should store your armagnac in a cold, dry and dark place to avoid the taste.
