What is beta carotene?

beta caroten is a carotenoid substance naturally found in plants that serve as accessories for photosynthesis. It is primarily responsible for pigment in orange -colored fruit and vegetables, but also contributes to pigment in red, yellow and green color of fruits and vegetables. Although some food sources are rich in beta carotene, including melon, broccoli, spinach and palm oil, carrots are the main supplier of this substance in the diet of most people.
