What is Bhakri?

bhakri is a type of unleavened bread. It is the basis of western and middle Indian cuisine. Simple, portable and cheap bread was traditionally the most popular among rural populations such as agricultural communities. A typical recipe will include flour, oil and water. Although it can be made with a wide range of flour, it is usually not flavored or improved by other ingredients, because it is served with accompaniment like Straj, Kari or Chilli paste known as theech . Although it is still consumed by the Indians, it is no longer a ubiquitous part of a typical food. For the most part, it was replaced by other types of flat bread, such as chapati , Paratha and roti , mainly because they are usually faster and easier to prepare.

Bhakri It is usually produced as bhakri . It can also be made with different types of millet, such as get and bayra . Some versions are also made of wheat or rice flour. Wateris then added until the dough reaches the desired consistency. The bread dough is usually kneaded in small doses and only a few pieces are balanced at once.

As soon as the dough is ready, it is rolled into a small ball. This is then manually flattened into a circle on a floured surface. When the dough circle is the required size and shape, each side is slightly coated with water to prepare for the cooking surface.

bhakri is usually cooked one piece at a time on a grid made of iron or aluminum. The traditional cooking surface is known as tawa . Once the bread is cooked, it holds over the open flame until it is puffy and topped with brown spots.

Although bhakri can be used as a general accompaniment of almost any Indian food, there are some spices and foods that are more popular than others. In its simplest form, it simply spreads through butter.
