What is Buko Pie?

Buko Pie is a dessert piece that is popular in the Philippines and is similar to coconut cream cake. Traditionally, young coconuts are used in the production of cake, lending her name as "Buko" means "young coconut" in the Philippine tagalog. There are many variations in Buko Pie. The cakes are perhaps the most popular in the province of Laguna, located in the Luzon area southeast of Manila. Buko Pie is sold in various restaurants and special bakes in the Philippines, some of which focus exclusively on the cake. Several variations of cake fillings exist with some recipes that require sugar, others for condensed milk and others for a combination of both. The use of condensed milk gives cakes a richer and sweeter taste. Most recipes use homemade bark made of flour, egg yolk and shortening. The bone purchased in the store can be replaced by faster preparation.

filling except sugar and/orcondensed milk and coconut, usually includes a small amount of corn starch to thicken the texture of the mixture and coconut water. The traditional cake includes only these ingredients in performance, but some decide to add vanilla or almond extract for more pronounced taste. After the bark and filling, the cake bakes in the oven for approximately 45 minutes or until the bark is angry.

There are many cakes that are similar to Buko Pie in texture and taste. The coconut cream cake has a similar taste, but does not include the top peel like Buko. It also has a more fluffy texture and is finished with whipped cream instead of a crust. Buko cake is similar to pudding -based cakes in Dutch and South African cultures. However, cakes in these regions often include other fruits or flavors such as raisins, nuts or cinnamon.

A similar type of cake is also popular in Philippines is Macapuno Pie, which uses a specific type of thick coconut. This coconut has less water in its meat, giving cakes filledou strong texture similar to jelly. Preparation of Macapuno Pie is similar to Buko Pie preparation. Macapuno is also commonly used in cakes and ice creams.
