What is Cozonac?
Cozonac is a classic Romanian sweet bread that is often served around Christian holidays. It is used for Christmas and is welcomed to Easter and can be compared with other European sweet breads such as Panetton, even if the shape is different. Bread is also traditional in many Bulgarian homes and can be written Kozunat.
This bread dough is quite rich, a combination of flour, butter, eggs, sugar, yeast and milk. Most recipes also contain raisins. Cozonac can be baked in different shapes and some Romanians combine these shapes to specific religious events. Knitted bread could be prepared for Easter and be a symbol of Christ's body before the dead of the dead, even if it may vary.
