What is Cuban bread?

Cuban bread is considered to be the daily bread of the Cuban community, especially in the United States. It is traditionally baked in the country of Cuba, but it is only used outside Cuba that the name "Cuban bread" is used. Light bread, usually made of all white flour and has a very thin crispy peel with a soft interior. Traditional recipes require the use of lard and many of them claim that this ingredient is essential for creating a unique taste and texture of bread. Although Cuban bread is located in many places where the Cubans have settled, it is particularly well known in South Florida.

The components in Cuban bread are little and the bread is not complicated. Usually, either flour, versatile flour or a mixture of them are used. The flour is combined with a small amount of salt and sugar, yeast, water and molten lard. Some recipes replace the shortening of vegetables for lard.
