What is dried onion?
dehydrated or dried onion is one that has been exposed to low heat until all humidity was removed. This helps keep the onion to maintain almost indefinitely if it is dry enough. It is usually sliced, embedded or chopped and can be purchased commercially or made at home.
Onions are grown in many parts of the world, but most of them come from India, Russia and China. In the United States, they are primarily grown in Oregon, Texas and California. Fresh onions are supplied from growers to the buyers, but those who remain unused in a reasonable time will end in soft and rot.
If you want to keep part of the crop at the time of the year when they are not easily accessible, many of them transform into chopped onions, as well as flakes and powders. All these products are made of dried onions and are packed and sold to help chefs to ensure that they have onions at hand when they need it. The drying process removes part of a strong taste from the onion, andLe still produces excellent ingredients for soups, salads, saucers and other foods.
In the production of dried onions at home, the onion should be completely peeled and then cut into very thin slices. They can be extended in one layer on drying stands or trays that allow to circulate air through them, and arrange so that the sides do not affect each other. Once the tanks are placed in an electric dehydrator, it takes about a day to be dry enough to save, at this point they should look and feel very dry and easily crumble. If there is too much moisture left, they will spoil quickly.
Instead of dried onion sluts, they can also be finely chopped or sliced, then placed on wax paper before inserting into the dehydrator. During the drying process, they should be mixed several times, make sure they dry evenly. This form of dried onions is very commonAvailable commercially and resulting onion bits can easily be measured with a spoon for use in various recipes.
If it is important to have a precise conversion of dried onions into fresh, there are some equivalent measurements that can be used to convert from one to another. One small onion is equal to about 1/3 cup (78 cm) fresh chopped onions. This is the equivalent of 1 tablespoon (14.79 cm) dried flakes. Some people prefer to use more dried onions to strengthen taste, but this is a question of personal taste and for most recipes is not necessary.
