What is Epicatechin?

epicatechin is a flavonol found in certain plants such as grapes, tea and cocoa. Research has shown that consuming products containing high levels of epicatechins can provide many health benefits. Specifically, it is assumed to reduce the likelihood of many common diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Another research has shown that it is associated with the release of symptoms caused by the same diseases. Some scientists believe that epicatechin can also help improve memory.

As the research has found the association between Epicatechin consumption and good health, it is important to know where these flavonols can be found. They are the highest in such consumables such as green tea, chocolate and wine. They are also found in grape juice and hot cocoa and in smaller quantities in other forms of tea, such as black tea.

The benefits of epicatechins were originally discovered when the scientist noticed that the Kuna people from Panama had only about ten % of the occurrence of diseases, which are quite prevailing in Western society, namely heart disease, diabetes and cancer. In further research, it was found that this group of people consumed large quantities, nearly 40 cups (about 9.4 liters) cocoa a week. As a result, further research was carried out to find out whether the correlation between the consumption of food -rich foods and health has occurred.

In one study, laboratory rats underwent in the form of cardiac surgery called coronary artery ligation. Some animals have consumed supplements containing epicatechin, while others don't. Scientists found that those who consumed supplements had less heart damage and had fewer events of congestive heart failure than their counterparts did not describe. In addition, decreased amounts of fat bearings and decreased degeneration of horsepower consuming epicatechins were found in T.

Scientists are increasingly looking for flavonols such as epicatechin,as valuable antioxidants. One study showed how high food consumption can be beneficial for prevention of various cancer such as skin cancer. In the case of skin cancer, it is assumed that they absorb ultraviolet rays causing cancer, reducing skin damage.

In another laboratory study, mice with diabetes had 50 % mortality. When epicatechins were supplemented, mortality improved to 8.4 percent in just a few months. Flavonol was also associated with an improved memory function. Scientists have found that this is particularly true when consuming epicatechins in conjunction with exercise. As a result, it is assumed to reduce the effects of aging and learning. It can even help people affected by Alzheimer's disease.
