What is a ground ivy?

Ground Ivy, scientifically known as glechoma hedeceacea , is a small leaf plant that grows in most Europe and North America as a land. The shape of its leaves resembles a conventional plant Ivy, a place where it derives its name. Ground Ivy, however, is a member of the Mint family and is not biologically related to any types of ivy. It tends to attack open spaces and can be very difficult to eradicate from lawns and gardens. Many people consider the plant anything but weeds, although its connection with Mint means that it also has many culinary and therapeutic uses.

Usually, it can overtake an open field or patch of soil in just a week and can be very difficult to kill because it reproduces with rhizomes below the ground.
