What is honey rum?
Honey Rum is an alcoholic beverage made of cane sugar that is flavored or mixed with honey. The production of commercial honey rum is most common in the Canary Islands, where it is assumed that rum was created. Rum is usually a very sweet drink to which it starts, but adding honey is smoother. Honey rum is usually served straight, often on ice, and is also very popular in cooking.
Different distillers have different means to prepare rum flavored with honey, but most of the time the sweetener is added as the age of alcohol. There are several different rum degrees, starting with light or white rum and ending with dark rum. The lightest rums usually age for the shortest time and are usually filtered before production and sale. Honey light rums are rare.
Gold rum and spicy rum fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum and create common bases for adding honey. These are generally aged in wooden barrels for several months or years. The longer they age, the darker they become. Spicy rum is usually onfilled with certain external flavors, especially cinnamon, pepper and herbs. When producing honey rum, honey is usually added to the barrel during this process. Depending on the amount used, honey can actually contribute to the golden taste of rum.
dark rum has the strongest taste of any variety. Honey can be added to this preparation, but everything is often overshadowed by the power of the drink. Most of the time is to carry a noticeable honey taste at the age of honey. Dark rum is often too powerful to even register the honey on the floor of the drinker.
In proper balance, honey rum has a rich and warm taste. While some rum preparations are designed to be used as bases for other cocktails or beverages, the honey rum should usually be used as it is. It is normally served chilled or over ice, sometimes with citrus decoration.
Some home chefs and adventure drinkers are looking for ways to createOwn honey flavored rum. This is most often achieved by mixing common rum with different types of honey. Home honey rum is usually not as good to drink straight as rum, which was specially aging, because flavors usually do not have time to mix in a glass as they do in the barrel. This type of rum is more often used in cocktails or cooking.
honey rum is often used in baking, especially desserts, but is also popular in spicy masks and vegetables. Rum is a common marinade and can also be used in a number of recipes for cooking and stewing. The extension of rum with honey can often strengthen the sweetness of the bowl and can add complexity and persistent rum taste long after alcohol is cooked.
