What is Longan?

Longan is the fruit of brown skin that is said to be a "small brother" Lychee. It is originally from China and Southeast Asia and is slightly larger than olive. Longan has a musk, grape taste and is sweeter than Lychee, but not so juicy. Longan has whitish, translucent meat that closes small black seeds, and its skin is light brown and fragile.

Longan or lungan is sometimes referred to as the eyes of Dragon's Eye in China. It is a seed in the middle of the fruit that gave him the name of "eyeballs". The seed is jet black and shiny with a circular white spot on its base, giving it the look of the eyeball. In China, Longan is used more often in traditional medicine than as edible fruit. The Longan tree was introduced in Florida in 1903 and was grown in several other places, but never became widely popular. It was known that it was easy to grow in Hawaii, but again it is not as popular as Lychee.

There are several different types of longan. Hei ho shih hsia is a black deployed longan and chin ch'i shih hsia is brown deployed. The body of these types of Longan is sharper and sweeter than other fruit varieties.

Other fruit variations include wu yuan , which is very small, acidic and mostly used for preservation. Hua Kioh has very thin, almost tasteless and its quality is very bad. she pi ' is the greatest fruit of the Longan family with harsh skin and a large seed; The quality is low and part of the juice is between the bark and the body.

If it is left at room temperature, Longan will remain fresh for several days. Longan can be frozen and unlike The Lychee, does not break so fast. Longans usually consume fresh, but you can also cook fruit. They are also available in syrup.

Longan is also like a medicine. Meat is considered to be an antidote for poison, while dried meat was used a cure for insomnia. There is a seed or ok in Vietnamo Fruit pushed against snake -levels to absorb poison.
