What is Manicish?

Manakish is a meal made of flat bread covered with various toppings, commonly consumed in Lebanon, Syria and other nearby countries. Other names are Manaeesh, Manakeesh and Mangish. The most common variety is Manakish Zaatar , Flatbread covered with a mixture of olive oil, wild thyme, culinary sumac and sesame seeds before baking. These types of breads are usually consumed for breakfast or lunch.

Bread is so popular in Lebanon that many communities have bakeries that specialize in food. It is served in a variety of settings, from road stands to luxury restaurants. Manicish pieces can be sliced ​​or smaller leaves can be folded and consumed.
