What is Metaxa?

Metaxa is a distilled spirit made in Greece of brandy and wine from grapes dried sun, mixed with nutmeg wine. It has been produced since 1888 and is exported to more than 60 countries. The spirit is a brown, rich and earthy drink made using a complex secret recipe with Greek grapes and spices. It is usually served on rocks, clean or mixed with acidic.

Metaxa distillery was founded by Spyros Metaxas in 1888 and the Spirit was first exported to the United States in 1900. The bottle celebrates Greek culture with the shape of Amphora and its label representing an ancient Greek warrior who was found on the coin during the first Metaxa factors. Metaxa is now part of the French group Rémy Caintreau, which also includes Rédy Martin Cognac, Cointreau, Mount Gay Rum, Passo and Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck Champagnes.

Metaxa is made of three separate mixtures that are mixed to create the final product. Brandy is distilledFrom the wine of various grapes dried by the sun, including black Corinthian, Rzutidy, Savatiano and Sultans and ages in new handmade French oak barrels. At the age of Muscat wine is produced using barrels remaining from brandy. The third mixture is a secret mixture of Greek spices and herbs, including pink petals, with distilled water. These three mixtures are combined with young Muscat wine to produce a finer final product.

There are five main Metaxa types as well as special limited edition products. In the upward order of quality and complexity, five main products are three stars, five stars, seven stars, twelve stars and Grand Reserve. The spirit of twelve stars is internationally distributed, while Grand Reserve and Limited Edition products are more difficult to find and sometimes limited to certain regions.

Metaxa can be enjoyed on your own or in various cocktails. Can be used onPlace of other spirits in traditional cocktails such as tonic water and in the Greek versions of the side car, Caipirinha and Mojito. It mixes well with fruit juices and sweet liqueurs. For example, the Greek version of Caipirinha, such as a drink that comes from Brazil, mixes metaxa with cane sugar and lime, along with a mixture of fresh fruit and black olives. Its flavor is rich, sweet and complex, with rose tones, bay leaves, cinnamon, dried fruit, lavender, nutmeg and pepper.
