What is Ramos Gin Fizz?
Ramos Gin Fizz, also known as Ramos Fizz or New Orleans Fizz, is a member of the Fizz family of cocktails. Fizz cocktails are usually based on gin and are named Fizz because of their combination of carbonated water and acidic citrus juice such as lemon, lime or orange. While sparkling is sometimes prepared using other liqueurs, the most popular are Gin Fizzes. Ramos Gin Fizz differs from other sparkling ingredients of orange flower water, cream and egg white. It is usually served in a highball glass and some simpler variations are prepared by mixing the gin and lemon lime soda. Together with Ramos Gin Fizz includes some established varieties of royal fizz, silver fizz, gold fizz, green fizz, diamond fizz and irritating gin Fizz.
Ramos Gin Fizz was created by Henry C. Ramos in 1888 in Meyer's Restaurant, New Orleans, Louisiana, where he operated a bar. Originally known as New Orleans Fizz, he eventually became known as Ramos Fizz or Ramos Gin Fizz as a tribute to his inventors. DrinkJ was also commonly served at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, where it became increasingly popular in the first half of the 20th century. It was discovered by Governor Louisiana Huey Long, who introduced a cocktail at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, leading to increased popularity in the United States.
Unlike the traditional Gin Fizz, Ramos Gin Fizz is served in a tall, thin glass, such as larger old -fashioned glass or zombie glass. Ramos Gin Fizz is created by a combination of 2 ounces (about 60 ml) gin, 1/2 ounce (about 15 ml) of each lemon and lime juice, 1 ounces (about 30 ml), 1 ounce (about 30 ml) simple syrup or comparable amount, three to four dashes of orange flower water and two drops of vanilla extract. The combination is then shaken for at least one minute and, if possible, before adding ice and shaking for another up to two minutes or more. The ice should not be added until white eggs are thoroughly mixed into the liquid. The drink is then tense, the carbonated water is addedAnd it mixes.
