What is Rijsttafel?

Rijsttafel is a Dutch word for Indonesian banquet. The word "rijsttafel" means "rice table" and is therefore the primary component of rice. Rijsttafel rice can be prepared in several ways, including steamed plains, fragrant spicy or fried with various masses, vegetables and herbs. To accompany rice, Rijsttafel also has a tasty amount of meat, vegetables and spices that represent Indonesian richly diverse cuisine.

Rijsttafel is based on an Indonesian feast known as our padang. The Dutch interpretation of this traditional holiday dates back to the colonial era, when the merchants of the Netherlands from the Netherlands colonized the Indonesian archipelago. The Dutch introduced their native cuisine in Indonesian culture and assimilated many Indonesian dishes into their own. Since then, Rijsttafel has become a Dutch tradition and is available in restaurants throughout the Netherlands.

With diet restrictions on Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism, religion also plays an important role in Indonesian cuisine. As a result, NASI Padang can contain meat, vegetarian meals or a combination of both based on diet preferences of guests. Like our Padang, the Dutch Rijsttafel can also include either a kitchen type or a combination of both.

Typical NASI Padang or Rijsttafel can have up to 40 to 100 meals. Among the hundreds of options for Rijsttafel are popular festive rice food known as NASI Kuning and a number of spicy curry and many food foods such as the role of loadia and skewers. Coconut milk is a common ingredient in many Indonesian meals, especially in soups and nitches. Rijsttafel maltons may include fried bananas, fried coconut and sweetened tropical fruit.

It also plays a major role in Rijsttafel. Sweet soy sauce known as KEKAP Manis is the basis on the Indonesian banquet table. Indonesian spices called sambs are also served as a fire supplement to food. These meals are usually composed of chili paste mixed with other flavors such as ginger, garlic and tamarind. Spices can also include many special decreases and sauces as well as a number of pickled meals.
