What is Soju?

Soju is an ancient form of clear alcohol distilled from rice and other grains. This was first produced in the 13th century in Korea during the Mongolian occupation. The popular drink remains, especially in South Korea, and sometimes called rice wine. In fact, it is quite different from rice wine or sake, because it is not only made of rice and has a much higher alcohol content, about 20-35% alcohol.

Some compare the taste of soy with vodka, even if it tends to have a sweeter surface. Sweetness can come not only from rice, but add grains such as wheat, barley and tapioca. During the distillation process, soya is usually also harmonized with sugar.

In Korea, soy is served in small shotgun glasses or can be used to make mixed drinks. Mixing with lemon lime is especially popular among younger Koreans. When consuming in a traditional way, Koreans have very specific ways to give and drink a drink, and appreciate the foreigners who follow these customs.

Several of these rules never include the non -curse of their own soy glass and never fill a glass for a shot with more until it is completely empty. The respect for the older drinking soy is proven by younger people who have turned away from their elders to drink from their filled glasses, and hold the glass with two hands if it is poured out by the person of the superior position. The drinkers have the opportunity to either sip soy or take it with a single shot. Either the form is considered polite.

The largest manufacturer of Soju is Jinro. Doosan is another popular Korean brand. The drink is very popular, with several billion bottles consumed annually. The form was also migrated to Japan, where it is called boy . Koreans, like the Japanese, are also fans of Sake, known as cheongju .

In South Korea, Soju is one of Least expensive types of alcohol to buy, partly representing its popularity. It also has a doubleUhava history in Korean culture and is particularly connected with friends. It is usually consumed in group settings.
