What is splenda®?

Splenda® is artificially produced sweeter, which is sold in the United States. In the European Union, the same product is known as the E955. It is available in a wide range of grocery stores and is located in the same alley as sugar. Splenda® is not sugar, but is a product based on sukralosis. Sukralosis is a chemical that has many of the same properties as sugar but has fewer calories.

Pure Surcalose has zero calories, but has approximately 600 times higher sweetness of sugar. When selling as Splenda®, sukralosis is combined with bings, fillers and other substances that add approximately three calories (5 ml) to each teaspoon. Food and drug management rules state that any product with less than five calories per service can be described as a product with zero calories.

There are three uses for Splenda®: in home baking, commercially prepared foods and hot drinks. When used in home baking, replace one cup (240 ml) sugar with 3/4-shaped (180 ml) SPENDA® and ¼ CUP (60ml) sugar. In this ratio, the dessert will have the same texture and moisture as dessert made of sugar, but will have lower calories. Replacing sugar with Splenda® reduces the moisture content in the item and may have a slightly bitter aftertaste.

SPENDA® is the most popular artificial sweetener in commercially baked products because it is stable at high temperatures and can be used to maintain a high level of humidity to prolong durability. This product is used as a sweetener in candies, breakfast colors, soft drinks and canned fruit. It is used instead of additives of the corn syrup with a high fructose content that have higher calories.

Each package contains one teaspoon (5 ml) splenda®, which has 3.31 calories. Calories are based on carbohydrates due to dextrose or maltodextrin shoes. Splenda® sells in individual yellow packages to be added to the kayou, teas or sweetened ice tea.

More than 100 scientific studies have been performed to test the impact on SPENDA® human health. The results of these studies confirm any increased risk of cancer and no reproductive or neurological effects. SPENDA® carries a reduced risk of carrying or cavities and is suitable for daily use of diabetics.

The daily limit of use throughout life, without adverse effects, is 0.5 oz/day (14 g/day) Surcalos. Some patients reported migraine headaches when using Splenda®. For these patients, it is best to avoid artificial sweeteners and use sugar, a natural, well tolerated product.
