What is yahni?

Yahni, which is also known as Yakhni, is spicy stew or soup made of fish, seafood, lamb, chicken, beef, vegetables and lentils. The word yahni is Turkish, while the word yakhni is Urda. It is named after the Persian clay vessel in which the food is traditionally cooked; The clay vessels are filled with Yahni steamed meat with a distinctive clay flavor. It is a meal of Greek origin, which is now part of Greek, Indian, Turkish, Persian, Romanian and Bulgarian cuisine; The Turks introduced food on the Balkans and since then has become quite a culinary favorite in these parts. This stew is considered a comfortable meal and is particularly recommended on a cold day; It can be very spicy and hot.

There are many regional variations of Yahni, including vegetarian, negetarian and mixed versions. The main ingredients needed for this meal include carrots, potatoes, lentils, zucchini, onion, garlic, coriander seeds, sages, bay leaves, parsley, olive oil, tomato paste, vegetable supply or water, sugar, salt and pepper. Beef, chicken, lamb and fish are added to create a vegetarian version. Yahni ingredients also include cheese, eggs, vegetable cubes and curry powder. Almonds, cherries and honey are sometimes added to the bowl.

It is quite easy to make this food at home. In the basic vegetarian bowl, the lens are cooked in a pot of salted water for about 10 minutes and then removed from heat, exhausted, washed in cold water and postponed aside. Other olive oil is heated in the pot and the finely chopped onion is fried with garlic, coriander and sage for a few minutes until the onion changes. The rest of the well -cured vegetables are added to the pot, along with salt, sugar, spices and herbs for spices and fry.
