What is panchakarma?

Panchakarma is a cleaning and detoxification process in Ayurvedic medicine. This practice is often done in five phases, Pancha is the word for five and karma is the word for action. These phases include the administration of enemas, the use of laxatives, cleansing cavities, induction of vomiting and cleaning blood. Immediately before and after Panchacarm, only vegetables, whole grains and certain drinks must be used. Once the process is completed, it is considered spiritually and physically cleansing.

Ayurveda is a holistic medical practice, a spiritual system and a way of life. Its roots lie in India. According to Ayurvedy, people have been exposed to stress and toxins throughout their lives that weaken the body and immune system. Through panchakarma, the body can be physically and spiritually cleaned. Two phases of panchakarma, which often practice in India, include Vaman and Raktamokshan.
