What are green beans?

Green beans are food items in the same family as black beans and kidney beans. They consist of a green pod with small seeds inside and both usually consume together as the only unit. Green beans are sometimes called string beans or beans. The term "bean chain" comes from the preparatory routine, which includes removal of a string piece of fiber from the back of each bean before cooking. Many newer strains of green beans no longer have a string and the only required preparation is the rupture of the end.

Beans are usually consumed fresh, and when they are purchased, it is generally important to choose the highest quality beans. Most experts argue that bright green color is a good sign and should not be bruises or other noticeable shortcomings. Beans should be generally solid and sharp and make sound sound when broken. It is important to store beans in the refrigerator until cooking, and it is good to wash them before cooking.

Most nutritionists think that green beans are very healthy foods. They generally have a high content of important vitamins and relatively low calories. Green beans also have a relatively high fiber content that can help in digestion and have a lot of vitamin K, which can potentially help one maintain robust bones. Some nutritional experts believe that green beans could be very useful to combat heart disease. They have several vitamins that help reduce the amount of cholesterol that accumulates in the blood vessels.

Generally cook green beans as a side dish or as a small part of a larger bowl and rarely are used as a main course. In many cases, they are simply cooked in water with very small preparation. They are also used in a large number of different recipes from soups to Casseroles and different cultures have different approaches to their preparation.

Green bean was domesticated for the first time in South American country PEru native tribes in this area. From there they spread all over the new world. In the 16th century, the Spanish sailors returning from America finally introduced green beans to Europe and quickly became popular food. Eventually they spread all over the world.
