What are tokseeds?

PopPyseeds come from pods at the base of poppy, papaver somniferum . Many varieties of kitchen use poppy, whole or ground, like spices in sauces, bread and marinades. Poppy also contain chemical alkanoids that are used to produce opioid derivatives such as morphine, opium and heroin. These types of poppies come from Asia and Europe. For centuries, many cultures have used their mature seeds as a spice. PopPyseeds are dark blue or gray in color and smaller than the head of the pin. Indian variety is whitish. With their fine and walnut flavor they are used in recipes similar to sesame seeds. The United States imports most of our poppyseeds from the Netherlands. When they are cold, they produce tasty oil similar to olive oil. It is common to find toksees sprinkled to the top of the bagules, floating in balsamic vinaigrette or surrounding the roast turkey. You can bake them in pecan muffins, a loaf of lemon bread or pumpkin biscuits. Although the amount of alkanoids is in poppy seedsCustom negligible, it is true that their ingestion can lead to a false positive opiate test for about 48 hours after.

In Latin, the name of the poppy means "somniferum", "brings sleep". Soporic effects of burning or catering poppy were well known to ancient cultures. Finally, people developed ways to concentrate alkanoids to make opium and heroin, which are now controlled substances. They were also used to developing a strong painkillers, morphine. Lore surrounding poppy was so strong that women in Europe placed them on a window sill if they wanted to give birth to a boy rather than a girl.
