What are the unusual types of berries?

You may be surprised that there are more than 20 different types of unusual berries in North America. This does not include many fruits that have the name "Berry", but in fact it does not belong to the same family as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and boys. These four fruits, which are sometimes considered part of a group of unusual berries, are actually aggregated fruits.

Some types of unusual berries that are easily accessible include black current, which is often used in canned products; Dewberry, which is similar to BlackBerry, with the exception of smaller ones; and Elderberries, popular in the production of wine and jams.

Many unusual berries available on the market are actually artificial crosses created to have faster growth, resistance to harsh weather or larger size. This is the case of Boysenberry, which was created as soft in taste and without seeds; Boysenberries are cross between Loganberries, Malina, and Blackberries. Ollie already berries are unusual berries that arose from the cross betweenLoganberries and Youngberries, in itself an artificial berry.

Gooseberries are another example of unusual berries, with added characteristics that American gooseberries are extremely different from the European area, taste (sour vs. sweet) and format. Seaberries are unusual berries that grow in cold weather and only in a few countries around the world. They are popular in Russia, where they are used to prepare tea.

Mulberries are unusual berries that are difficult to find on the market because of their fragility. Soft and half -sweet, mulberry are more often consumed by people who have a tree in the backyard or know how to identify them in the wild in choosing fruit. Saskatoons are another type of unusual berries that are not commercially grown. Popular among the native Americans, Saskatoons grow in perennial soil and have a distinctive taste that is not similar to another known berry.
