What is Acroyoga?
Acroyoga is a discipline of partners that combines yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage. In addition to being intense exercise, Acroyoga includes the benefits of these three ancient disciplines. The practitioners claim that regular sessions increase the feelings of trust and deep connections with the people they work with, and that Acroyoga also builds stronger, more limited bodies and a sense of playfulness. The practice of Acroyoga is concentrated on the west coast of the United States where it was created, but slowly spreads and you may be able to find a class in your area with a little search. When they both met Carolyn Cohen, practicing Thai massages, Acroyoga was born. The group is based in San Francisco, but travels around the world and offers classes and certification workshops. Then the group walks through a number of asanas or yoga, which warms up before it flows into partnership. People can bring their own practical partners or can meet people on Acroyoga Session. Partner routines include sections that require two people, building connectionsand confidence before moving to the next phase of the session, inversion.
Inversions are exactly how it sounds; It represents in which the participant is upside down. In some cases, both partners are inverted and in all cases participants support each other through these demanding positions. The purpose of inversion is to bring a sense of playfulness and also encourage people to look at the world in a new way. After building confidence with inversions, the sessippers move to the partner acrobatics, including flying, in which one partner remains on Earth as a base that supports the other in the air position. Finally, the session ends with Thai massage to stimulate the balance of energy and at the same time honor the partnership that was built during the session.
This style of partner yoga can be very demanding, but classes are offered at all levels of difficulties. In general, people are asked to have some acquaintance and self -confidence with a standAmi, even if it is not necessary. Acroyoga's class and retreats take place in all corners of the world, from Hawaii to Greece, for people who are interested in this discipline for themselves.
