What is Eau de Vie?
Eau de Vie is a type of brandy French derivation. It is made of fruit, including pears, apples, raspberries and peaches. The colorless spirit usually distills after fermentation.
The version of the drink is characterized by the specific fruit from which they are made, and are usually named in French for the recommended fruit. Some examples would be -de pomme , from apple, -e peche , from peach, -de poire , from pear and -e framboise of raspberries. The fruit is harvested, then fermented and finally the product is distilled, avoiding storage in wooden barrels. Experts say that this is why Eau de Vie is clear and is not tinted, just like most brands.
Eau de Vie is most often associated with France. However, similar drinks are produced in many countries such as Germany, Italy, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and the Yugoslav/Balkan countries. Many times this kind of drink is made of residues from the wine production process.
The term Eau de Vie translates into the "water of life". Other nations also have similar ghosts named after water, such as Russian "vodka". The concepts for liqueurs differ in many national borders. Those who have a deep knowledge of the origin of words often claim that the French term comes from the Latin "Aqua Vitae", which has become used for any kind of distilled alcohol for many centuries of European history. Old English lyrics sometimes call this kind of drink "Ghosts of wine".
Experts recommend administration of Eau de Vie chilled. Many of those who drink this liqueur do it as a drink after dinner and take only 1-2 ounces "shot". The drink has a high alcohol content, often around standard 80 evidence, and should be absorbed in small, even quantities.
Using the term Eau de Vie for specific drinks shows how liqueur production changes all over the world while sharing some basic essentials in the topicAny culture. In America, Eau de Vie competes with more domestic liqueurs, from whiskey and related drinks, to brandy and luxury liqueurs promoted in the new world and is now sold by large commercial companies. Many essentially American liqueur companies are acting from Appalachia and coastal communities with a long history for its products. On the US market, Eau de Vie is considered one of many international liqueurs that may or may not be difficult to find imported into a recognized state distributor of liqueur.
