What is curcumin?

curcumin is present in the spice of turmeric, often used in Indian food. Its chemical make -up is responsible for yellow turmeric color and is often used specifically for giving food colors. However, it can serve for people more important purpose. Medical scientists are fascinated by curcumin because it has been shown to have several qualities that can fight specific forms of cancer.

Antioxidant, curcumin can also have anti -inflammatory benefits. Clinical studies in rats or mice exposed to carcinogens show that these animals, if curcumin are administered in their diet, had a much lower occurrence of colon cancer and that the substance actually caused cancer cells of colon (apoptosis). Moreover, while curcumin created apoptosis in colon cancer cells, it did not cause cellular death in healthy non -marginal cells. One of the problems with most cancer drugs used today in chemotherapy is that they not only kill cancer cells butAlso, your cells are healing. The study assigned to the University of California-Los Angeles evaluated the effect of curcumin on the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease. It clearly recognized plaques formations in the brain caused by Alzheimer's disease and may affect the degree of symptoms.

Some scientists also study whether curcumin can have effects increasing the brain, which promotes greater memory. These studies still require more evidence, but preliminary results of surveys suggest that it may be a good brain food.

Unfortunately, not all evidence of curcumin indicates positive results. Although it may fight against colon cancer, it may also be carcinogen, according to a medical study of 2005. This particular study suggests that the way curcumin means that one can reasonably judge that it could also be responsible for cell damage elsewhere in the body. There is still little evidence of it, what degree of risk could be like carcinogen.

It is known that the human body does not absorb curcumin too much when consuming. However, the body does not need to absorb it to gain benefits. When using black pepper, because it can be very well in Indian food, the substance is better absorbed and shows higher blood levels with people.

You can buy curcumin in the form of capsule and liquid, but can be best taken in food, especially if one adds pepper. When used as a spice it is certainly cheaper.
