What is a glucomannan?

Glucomannan is a water -soluble diet fiber made of Konjac plant root. In Asian foods such as tofu and noodles, it is widely used as an emulsifier and thickening. It is also sold as a food supplement, is available in the form of a pill or powder and is offered as a product for weight loss as a constipation and as a treatment of high cholesterol and diabetes. As a food supplement, it is available in powders, cocktails and tablets, sold as an individual supplement or mixed with other components.

As well as other fiber sources, glucomannan is often used to treat constipation. It works by absorbing water, allowing stool to pass smoothly. Studies concerning its effect on constipation have shown positive results with a significant increase in the frequency and stool size.

Advocates promote this diet thread as a weight loss product. Glucomannan combines with water and creates a thick gel that can give the dieter full, deployed feeling. Re -cheries did not determine the efficiency of this fiber JAKO supplement to weight loss.

Diabetes studies also had promising results. These studies have found that glucomannan effective in reducing cholesterol levels in diabetics. They also indicate that the fiber can be useful in checking the blood sugar levels.

Many of these advantages are determined by all dietary fibers and glucomannan has not been identified as superior. Regulatory agencies such as food and drug management in the United States have not approved a supplement to treat any health since October 2010.

Most side effects, such as gas or flatulence, are relatively small, causing only discomfort or distraction, but concerns about possible side effects led to some strong warnings. Its impact on cholesterol andBlood sugar is unsuitable for people who are already treated for diabetes because it can disrupt existing drugs. Expectant and nursing mothers are also discouraged from using the supplement.

Inability to take glucomannan with sufficient water, especially in the form of pills, was identified as a potential risk. The fiber absorbs enough water to swell, but not enough to become fluid, and can potentially create blocking in the digestive tract or even in the throat. People who have difficulty swallowing or who have a narrow esophagus should not use this supplement.
